Melissa is a tireless leader and exemplifies SAHS core values both professionally and personally.

Reverence: care of humanity through anticipating and understanding the needs of her reports. She is engaged with colleagues, always encouraging professional and personal growth. Melissa is also an advocate for those we serve and works to provide guidance, when necessary, on appropriate discharge planning.

Safety: Melissa is dedicated to the safety of colleagues by participating in various work groups aimed at enhancing colleague and patient safety in a rapidly changing healthcare environment.

Justice: Melissa works to achieve equitable outcomes, balancing staff's personal needs and the department's needs. She steps up to provide direct support through case management for those we serve, as needed, to promote staff morale and ensure safe transitions of care.

Stewardship: Melissa works within the department budget by managing office supplies, census, and staffing needs. She also stewards her role as department manager alongside personal commitments, balancing both as a true leader.

I am so thankful for her dedication and genuine concern for colleagues. Melissa's dedication to staff in her role as department manager is reassuring and inspires me both professionally and personally.

I wanted to reach out to recognize Melissa. I was diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkin's Lymphoma in September 2024, when I had only worked here for around 10 months. I stepped down a week prior to my cancer diagnosis from my full-time social work job to a PRN position. I went through chemotherapy and immunotherapy from October through April. It was so incredibly stressful and isolating. Melissa knew that my mental health desperately needed the connection with my team and to be able to be a social worker and not just a cancer patient. Melissa bent over backward to accommodate my needs by allowing me to work only in units with few to no communicable viruses. She was so very supportive when chemo would knock me down to the point I couldn’t work. She checked on me and also made time to say hi and see how I was feeling while I worked. I feel so incredibly grateful to have the incredible leader I do. She embodies everything St Al’s stands for, and she deserves recognition.

The team we have here is unlike any I’ve had the privilege of working with before. A lot of that is the atmosphere set by management, more specifically, Melissa. I know people often complain about management, but the good things deserve to be said and heard as well.
