Professor Castronova didn’t just teach me skills. She taught me confidence, patience, and the importance of caring for others and myself. She inspired me to grow, to lead, and to trust the knowledge I’ve worked so hard to build.
Professor Castronova made one of the hardest semesters of my nursing journey feel possible. I was a full-time student working long hours, exhausted and overwhelmed, and she was the first person who truly saw how much I was struggling. She gently encouraged me to be kinder to myself and even suggested that I cut back my work hours so I could focus on learning. That moment showed me how deeply she cares about her students’ well-being, not just their grades.

During my clinical rotation at St. Rose Dignity Rehabilitation Hospital, she was very dedicated. She arrived early every clinical day to review patient assignments and ensure we would have meaningful experiences. She was patient, steady, and honest about what it takes to become a good nurse. She never made me feel embarrassed for not knowing something; instead, she turned every question into a chance to grow.

One moment I will never forget happened during a skills checkoff. I was having anxiety, and he immediately pulled me aside, guided me through deep breathing, and stayed with me until I felt grounded again. Then she told me something that changed everything, saying that if she were ever sick, she would trust me to be her nurse.

Hearing that from someone I admired so much brought me to tears. My hands stopped shaking. I passed the checkoff. And for the first time, I truly believed in myself.

Professor Castronova didn’t just teach me skills. She taught me confidence, patience, and the importance of caring for others and myself. She inspired me to grow, to lead, and to trust the knowledge I’ve worked so hard to build.

I am honored to recognize her because she changed my life in a way I will carry into every patient interaction for the rest of my career.
