I have known Llewelyn (Lulu) since 2017. She developed from a new hire into a trusted resource nurse and Staff Nurse IV. She often works behind the scenes so our unit can deliver safe, high-quality care.
In her first year at Kaiser, she helped reorganize the ICU supply and equipment room, which improved workflow for everyone. She serves on the Pharmacy Committee and has been an active member of ICU Nursing Shared Governance and the IMPACT Council, supporting quality improvement across the ICU.
What I admire most is Lulu’s dedication as a preceptor and mentor. She supports ICU Skills Day, helps with onboarding new hires and travelers, and has precepted many nurses in our ICU Training Program. She was recognized as an Outstanding Preceptor for the NCAL Region in Fall 2024.
She was featured on the Kaiser Permanente NCAL nursing website on August 7, 2025, in the article “Shaping the Future of Nursing,” highlighting her work as a preceptor for our ICU Training Program. Her careful attention to new-hire orientation has helped ICU Nursing Professional Development and ICU management create action plans when extra support was needed.
Patients meet many wonderful nurses, and Lulu is the quiet force that helps them shine. She once said, “I will make you proud.” She lives by that promise.
Lulu delivers high-quality care, strengthens the unit, and shows full ownership of her profession. I firmly believe she deserves this DAISY Award.
