In a situation where fear and language barriers could have made everything overwhelming, Elizabeth's presence brought a sense of safety and trust.
I would like to recognize Elizabeth for the exceptional compassion and care she has shown my family and me on two separate occasions.
I first met Elizabeth during an Urgent Care visit in Dublin when I had brought my mother in. She was visiting from India, did not speak English, and was suddenly sweating profusely. I was extremely anxious, unsure whether this was a stroke, heart attack, or something else, and in the moment of panic, my thinking was not at its best.
Elizabeth immediately stepped in with calm, clarity, and kindness. She carefully took the history from me, communicated everything clearly to the physician, and ensured that my mother received prompt testing and treatment. When it became clear that her blood sugar had dropped dangerously and she needed further evaluation, Elizabeth helped coordinate her transfer to the emergency department, reassuring us every step of the way.
What stayed with me most from that experience was not just her clinical competence, but her ability to comfort both the patient and the caregiver. In a situation where fear and language barriers could have made everything overwhelming, Elizabeth's presence brought a sense of safety and trust.
Months later, I encountered Elizabeth again during my own Urgent Care visit for a sore throat. Once again, she was articulate, efficient, and incredibly reassuring. The way she explained things and spoke with such warmth instantly brought back the memory of how safe I had felt when my mother was in her care.
Whether it is a minor illness or a potentially life-threatening situation, the first thing a patient and their support person need is comfort. Elizabeth provides that, naturally, along with professionalism, clarity, and empathy. She creates an environment where it feels easy to share concerns and feel truly heard.
For her clinical excellence, her calm presence, and her deep compassion, I wholeheartedly believe Elizabeth embodies the spirit of the DAISY Award.
