She went over and beyond for my entire family by getting everyone bagged lunches, snacks, coffee, water, etc.
Amanda was the day shift nurse on my grandmother's 2nd day of admission. After a brain hemorrhage, my grandma didn't have much time left and was being kept comfortable in a room. Amanda had an amazing approach with all her tasks and room visits. She went over and beyond for my entire family by getting everyone bagged lunches, snacks, coffee, water, etc. Whenever we requested anything, she was quick to respond. She continually checked in on how we were doing and was attentive to our needs every minute she was on shift. She would explain the reasoning for every medication she administered, and she made us feel like we were not a burden when we asked questions about what to expect and why things were happening.

Amanda's presence, soft voice, and encouraging words were exactly what my family needed while we were processing the imminent death of my grandma. Amanda truly made us feel like we were all her own family, not just another patient with visitors. I can speak for everyone when I say we had no doubt we were in the best hands. Amanda deserves to be recognized for how she truly cared for everyone and created a space for us to grieve and focus on my grandma. An experience that is typically negative and difficult was made less heavy by having Amanda around.

I was moved by Amanda's passion for becoming a nurse after many years as a paramedic. She is one of those rare people who discover that they were created to do. I know that SMH and Valley Health are absolutely blessed to have Amanda on their team. We will be very grateful for her compassion and selflessness during one of the toughest times of our lives.
