She made sure my spouse had all the baby supplies he needed as he drove to meet me at the hospital, easing his stress during an already overwhelming time.
During one of the most vulnerable and emotionally intense moments of my life, Jackie was a source of compassion, strength, and grace. Although my stay at Lakeview was brief due to a medical emergency following birth that required me to be transferred to another hospital, Jackie made an unforgettable impact in that short time—one that I will carry with me forever.
Jackie didn’t just provide clinical care; she provided a human connection. She laughed with me when I needed lightness, cried with me when emotions overwhelmed me, and held my hand when I felt scared and alone. Her presence was grounding and comforting. She treated me not just as a patient, but as a person navigating a deeply complex moment.
What truly sets Jackie apart is the extraordinary care she took to ensure my newborn baby, only eight hours old, could be discharged and transferred with me to the ICU at another hospital. Her coordination, advocacy, and attention to detail made what could have been a traumatic separation into a moment of healing and unity. Because of Jackie, I didn’t have to face the ICU alone, I had my baby and spouse with me and that meant everything.
Jackie also went above and beyond to ensure that our baby had access to donor milk after I was transferred. She made sure my spouse had all the baby supplies he needed as he drove to meet me at the hospital, easing his stress during an already overwhelming time. She even coordinated with the unit team at the hospital I was transferred to that everything we would need was waiting for me when we arrived—a bassinet, a breast pump, and newborn essentials—so that I could continue caring for baby despite my own medical challenges. Her foresight and advocacy made an impossible situation feel manageable.
Jackie’s empathy, professionalism, and dedication exemplify what nursing is all about. She went above and beyond in every way, and her actions had a profound impact on my physical and emotional recovery. I can not thank Jackie enough for the care she gave my baby and me.
