What stood out most was not just the hours she worked, but the presence she brought. During a time of uncertainty and heightened stress, Laura was a steady, reassuring leader. Staff felt supported, guided, and confident knowing she was there alongside them.
I am honored to nominate Laura Gray for the DAISY Foundation Nurse Leader Award in recognition of her exceptional leadership, dedication to workforce safety, and unwavering commitment to excellence in Employee Health Services.

Laura is a highly respected and dependable leader who consistently demonstrates accountability, professionalism, and a deep sense of responsibility for both her team and the broader organization. She leads a complex and high-volume program, overseeing onboarding for more than 1,200 employees, managing exposure responses, and ensuring compliance with critical requirements such as vaccinations, tuberculosis screening, and mask fit testing. Her ability to maintain regulatory readiness while managing operational demands reflects not only strong leadership but also a keen attention to detail that ensures safe, reliable, and compliant practices.

What sets Laura apart is her inclusive and collaborative leadership style. She is intentional about ensuring that all perspectives are heard and valued. In her work on blood-borne pathogens and Employee Health policies, colleagues have specifically highlighted her ability to bring diverse voices to the table and thoughtfully incorporate feedback into meaningful outcomes. This approach fosters trust, strengthens interdisciplinary collaboration, and leads to well-informed, sustainable decisions.

Laura’s communication style is clear, approachable, and grounded in partnership. She creates an environment where team members feel welcomed, supported, and encouraged to share feedback. This has been especially impactful in multidisciplinary initiatives, where her openness and ability to align stakeholders have contributed to smoother workflows and stronger team cohesion.

A powerful example of Laura’s leadership and commitment occurred during two workforce stoppages, when the organization faced an urgent need to onboard a high volume of contingent workers to maintain operations. During this critical time, Laura stepped in without hesitation and worked tirelessly to ensure continuity of care and workforce readiness. She worked continuously throughout the week and into the weekends, without any days off, to support onboarding efforts and keep operations moving forward.

What stood out most was not just the hours she worked, but the presence she brought. During a time of uncertainty and heightened stress, Laura was a steady, reassuring leader. Staff felt supported, guided, and confident knowing she was there alongside them. Her calm demeanor, clear direction, and willingness to do the work herself created a sense of stability and trust when it was needed most. Team members have shared that her leadership during this time reduced anxiety, strengthened morale, and reinforced a shared sense of purpose. She did not simply manage the situation; she inspired her team through it.

Her commitment to service is further reflected in her focus on improving access and experience for employees and providers. Laura has expanded service offerings, including increased flu vaccination opportunities and off-site support, while also streamlining processes to improve efficiency and turnaround times. These efforts demonstrate her dedication to meeting the needs of a large and diverse workforce while maintaining high standards of care and safety.

In addition to her operational excellence, Laura is deeply committed to developing others. She actively supports the growth of her team, onboarding new staff, guiding leaders, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous learning. Her leadership reflects a growth mindset, and she consistently seeks opportunities to improve both personally and organizationally.

Laura exemplifies the qualities of a DAISY Nurse Leader. She leads with integrity, compassion, and purpose. Her attention to detail ensures safety and compliance, while her collaborative approach inspires trust and engagement. She not only delivers strong results but also elevates those around her, making a lasting impact on her team, her organization, and the patients and employees they serve.
