Kelsey made a frightening and uncertain time feel more human and hopeful for our family, and we will always be grateful for her.
Nomination #1:
My fiancé was an ICU patient at St. Mark’s Hospital for about a week. All the nurses we had were great, but one stood out from the beginning... Kelsey!

From the moment we met her, we knew she was special, and she did a great deal to immediately relieve the stress and fear that he, I, and his family were experiencing. It was a scary time we were all going through, but Kelsey did her job well and explained surgeries, what to expect from them, and did everything in her power to help us all get through this difficult experience.

Kelsey was a joy from the moment we met her. She had tons of energy, lots of smiles, and positive energy. She was constantly checking in on him and making sure he was comfortable and properly medicated, which I really appreciated because he was full of anxiety and very uncomfortable with pain. Kelsey cared for him (and me) for three nights, and we both looked forward to seeing her because we knew we were getting the best possible care from her. Kelsey told me a little bit about herself and how much she loved her job, the good and the bad, and I could tell she truly cared about her patients.

Even though he was not her patient later, she came back to check on him many times while we were there. Thank you, Kelsey! We will always remember you and the excellent care, support, and compassion you gave to us during our stay.

Nomination #2:
Kelsey took care of my mom in the ICU. She called to let my family know my mom was not doing well, and that we should come be with her. When we arrived at the hospital, Kelsey was so compassionate and kind, giving me a hug, but she was also straightforward about the details of the situation. She delivered heartbreaking news in a calm and kind way that made it easier to digest. She made sure all of our questions were answered honestly, but thoughtfully. She worked tirelessly all night long, adjusting IV’s and dialysis to keep mom’s heart beating until the rest of our family could make it to say goodbye. We were blown away by her professionalism, knowledge, kindness, and care she gave our mom, even through the hard situation. We owe so much to sweet Kelsey!

Nomination #3:
Kelsey treated us like family and not like we were just another patient. She was kind, professional, and informative, and always willing to help and answer our questions. If anyone deserves the DAISY Award, it is Kelsey from the ICU.

Nomination #4:
On my dad’s very first night in the ICU, he was intubated, sedated, and extremely vulnerable. Kelsey immediately went above and beyond to ensure he was treated with dignity and comfort. She carefully cleaned him, changed all of his sheets, organized his IV lines, and made sure he looked and felt as comfortable as possible. Because my dad is tall, she even found another nurse to assist her in safely repositioning him so he would not suffer unnecessary discomfort. Her attention to detail and willingness to ask for help demonstrated both professionalism and deep commitment to patient safety.

Kelsey embodies the mission, vision, and values of St. Mark’s Hospital. She demonstrated professionalism through her clinical skill, compassion through her kindness, and passion through the energy she brought to every interaction. She took time to make sure my dad was comfortable, safe, and respected, not just medically treated, but genuinely cared for as a person. Kelsey made a frightening and uncertain time feel more human and hopeful for our family, and we will always be grateful for her. She is truly deserving of this recognition.
