Her love for her patients is evident in the way she speaks to them, comforts them, and anticipates their needs.
Richele Whorton exemplifies the spirit of the DAISY Award through her unwavering compassion, clinical excellence, and deep commitment to the community she serves. As the Charge Nurse of Ambulatory Day Surgery, she consistently goes above and beyond for patients, families, and staff, embodying what it means to lead with heart.
Richele’s service extends far beyond the walls of ANMC. She organizes food drives, prepares care packages, and spends her holidays feeding the homeless, never seeking recognition, only wanting to ensure people feel seen and cared for. Her generosity is not an occasional act; it is a way of life.
Inside the surgical unit, Richele provides exceptional, safe, and thoughtful care. She advocates fiercely for her patients and ensures every person receives the highest standard of treatment. Her love for her patients is evident in the way she speaks to them, comforts them, and anticipates their needs. She also cares deeply for her team, supporting staff through challenges, celebrating their successes, and creating an environment where people feel valued and protected.
One moment that stands out occurred today: Richele noticed an individual sleeping in the hallway with visible injuries. Without hesitation, she checked on him multiple times, offered snacks, ensured he was warm, and made sure he had somewhere safe to go. Her compassion was immediate, instinctive, and unwavering, exactly the kind of quiet heroism that defines extraordinary nursing.
Richele has a special place in her heart for children, always going out of her way to comfort them and ease their fears. She pushes herself constantly, often putting others’ needs before her own, because she believes every person deserves dignity, safety, and kindness.
For her leadership, her service, her compassion, and her extraordinary dedication to both her community and her patients, I am honored to nominate Richele Whorton for the DAISY Award. She is the kind of nurse who changes lives simply by being who she is.
