Claudia not only ensures nurses have a seat at the table but also brings decisions directly to frontline team members.
It is critical that we take a moment to reflect on all of Claudia Chavana's contributions to nursing at Greater Heights. Some leaders manage programs, and some are the program, and I think we all know which one Claudia is. She doesn't just oversee our Magnet journey. Claudia lives and breathes Magnet as evidenced by her unwavering commitment to nursing culture and excellence.

In the past year alone, Claudia has left her fingerprints all over quality improvement projects that impact our entire hospital. She has facilitated critical initiatives targeting nurse-sensitive indicators such as HAPIs and falls, seeking ways to not only enhance patient safety but also empower our nurses. As one of the leaders of our Performance Excellence Committee and our Magnet Program Director, she nurtures a culture where everyone knows their contributions matter and their voices are heard. This is even more evident when you consider her work as advisor for our campus Professional Governance Council. Claudia not only ensures nurses have a seat at the table but also brings decisions directly to frontline team members. When we talk about transformational leadership in nursing, we're talking about Claudia and how she unites teams around a shared vision and supports them in achieving their goals. She doesn't have to do the work herself; she knows how to motivate and inspire folks so they'll want to pull together and get it done.

Have you enjoyed Certified Nurse Day or Nurses Week activities? Then you've enjoyed the fruits of Claudia's labors. Did you ever need someone to think through a problem with you, bounce an idea off of, or just make you feel heard? Claudia was probably there to do it. And later this year, when we earn our third Magnet designation, we'll have Claudia to thank for her leadership. Her impact will be felt for a long time to come, and awarding her the DAISY Leader award would just be a small fraction of the recognition she deserves.
