Monday morning, there was a voicemail on my phone from Joyce saying she had gotten to work and learned that my husband had died the night before, and how sorry she was for us.
My husband had a brief stint in the Norwalk Hospital ICU in 2025. He moved into a bed late afternoon on a Friday after spending the day in the ER. His ICU nurse the next day was Joyce, the loveliest woman I have met in a while. We weren’t sure exactly what was happening, and my husband was in bad shape- she talked my young 21-year-old twin daughters and me through all the tough stuff all day-we were in and out throughout the day, and every time we came back, she was quick to keep us updated!
When we arrived that evening to say good night to my husband, he was beautifully clean with the blanket we had left up to his neck. Amazing! We said good night to her and said see you tomorrow (Sunday), and she said she doesn’t work on Sundays, but on Monday! Sadly, my husband passed away on Sunday evening! Monday morning, there was a voicemail on my phone from Joyce saying she had gotten to work and learned that my husband had died the night before, and how sorry she was for us. This was so above and beyond our expectations! Joyce is amazing; she is a veteran, 30+ years, and so incredible! I hope I get to see her again to thank her in person for how she helped my daughters and me that day and how she treated my husband during his last days. She made us feel heard and seen, and she made my husband so comfortable and at ease during his last hours! We are so grateful for this amazing nurse, Joyce!
