All in all, my experience was tremendously improved by Sierra (as well as all members of my nursing staff), and we felt extremely lucky to have had her as our nurse throughout the day!
During our stay for the birth of our daughter, we had such an amazing array of nurses and doctors. Everyone on staff was incredibly kind, helpful, and encouraging. I want to give a shout-out to the Lactation specialists and the nurse who checked us out the day we left. I unfortunately don't remember the names of all the other nurses we saw, but we never had a bad experience across the board. Everyone was incredible, and we were so grateful to have their support. One person who stood out the most, however, was Sierra.
She (and G) were the primary nurse team we had for most of the day through labor and delivery. She brought a confident, calm, and encouraging presence to the entire experience, which made the entire day so much better. She was super down to Earth, patient, willing to explain everything going on, and brought an air of confident control to the situation that helped put me at ease in a very stressful situation. It felt like she knew what she was doing, and I didn't need to stress because if I just followed her lead, we'd get through the process - and we did. I'm generally a very anxious person on a good day, so having someone around to put me more at ease was genuinely invaluable. Even when things got chaotic, she remained calm, and that, in turn, kept me calm - I didn't even realize how serious things had gotten at one point until we debriefed after the fact. It felt like she genuinely cared about the baby and me, and not just as another patient on the floor; it seemed like she was personally invested in us and our experience, and it was so reassuring to know that I had someone in my corner every step of the way. She was also great with my family members, and they said she even gave them a "thumbs up" from a distance in the hallway while they waited for news from the delivery. "Shes a vibe" (in the best way) is how my husband described her!
Lastly, she wrote us a congratulations card with words of encouragement and advice that was greatly appreciated as we were preparing to leave the hospital with our new baby. All in all, my experience was tremendously improved by Sierra (as well as all members of my nursing staff), and we felt extremely lucky to have had her as our nurse throughout the day!
