She goes above and beyond like this for everyone, always. She’s what all of us should strive to be.
Nomination #1
As a patient begins cancer treatment, they have a teaching session with a medical oncology nurse who most likely will be one of the nurses administering their infusions throughout their course of treatment. There is a lot of information to keep straight, and Martha is a “go-to” for the patients. In more cases than I can even recall, I’ve gone to this nurse about a patient, and even if it’s not one of “her” patients, she will fully investigate every detail and report back to the rad onc team. Not only does she perform such a labor-intensive task, but she does so in a positive way and in a timely manner. She’s caring, considerate, compassionate, and kind. I would be honored and count it a privilege if she were my friend or family member’s nurse.
Nomination #2
Martha, in my opinion, could receive this award yearly based on her performance. She is outstanding and checks off every box listed as a DAISY Nurse. In particular, there is a patient being treated for lung cancer who developed a severe cold and was immunocompromised. She found out about his patient and did not want her to have to jump through the hoops of urgent care or her PCP until she could be seen the following week. At 6:30 on a Friday evening, she contacted the patient’s oncologist, who ordered medication for her. She came in on a Saturday to get it sent to her pharmacy. She goes above and beyond like this for everyone, always. She’s what all of us should strive to be.
