My 1.5-year-old granddaughter was being seen in the ED when she experienced a very scary and stressful event. It was overwhelming for our entire family, and of course, especially frightening for a baby who could not understand what was happening. During this incredibly emotional time, Courtney went far above and beyond in every way possible. Courtney was a strong and unwavering patient advocate from the very beginning. She worked quickly and professionally to establish an IV in a very small, scared toddler, something that takes not only skill, but confidence and compassion. Her clinical competence was evident, but what stood out even more was her calm presence and reassuring demeanor. She communicated clearly and effectively with both the medical team and our family, helping us understand what was happening and what the next steps would be.

Even in the midst of urgency, she made us feel seen, heard, and cared for. Once the situation calmed down and things were more stable, Courtney continued to show extraordinary kindness. She and the rest of the team brought our granddaughter a popsicle, a fan, and stickers, small gestures that meant so much after such a scary moment. She turned fear into comfort. We will never forget the care she provided for our grandbaby and our family.
