Nurse Mariel prepared me, a young 80-year-old, for AAA recovery surgery by explaining what was going to take place and how everything would work, and most of all with a manner of trust and confidence that put me at ease. She made me feel like everything would be just fine. Even more than that, she introduced me to the other staff who would be helping me, and in doing so exhibited a relaxed and very strong team-building rapport. She made sure everyone who worked with her to support me was clearly recognized as a valued and respected member of the team. Even interns from the local college were woven into her sense of confidence, respect, and support for me. As I came out of recovery, Nurse Mariel welcomed me back to consciousness, making me feel all would be well.
