Stefanie's compassionate care for this one patient, reminding them of their self-worth, was instrumental in their decision to transform their life and persevere through the challenges of achieving sobriety.
In the fast-paced and often challenging environment of the Emergency Department, it is often difficult to maintain kindness and compassion, especially in the face of daily verbal and physical aggression. However, Stefanie consistently provides wonderful care to her patients, demonstrating profound empathy and compassion. Recently, a patient came to the ED with a handwritten card describing the profound effects Stefanie's care had on her life.
The patient's card read, "Stefanie, I was your patient one year ago today, which was my birthday. I thought I was going to die, and I'm pretty sure you did too, except you never let on. I remember telling you that I didn't even really deserve to be in the bed because there were sicker people out there. You know, and I did this to myself, alcohol. You said I was worth every bit as much as they were. The reason I made it through this last year had a lot to do with you. I have thought of you often. I haven't had a drink since that night. I just want to say thank you so much. What you do truly does matter. You will always be in my heart."
This handwritten note beautifully illustrates the powerful impact of kindness and compassion in helping individuals navigate their most difficult days. Stefanie's compassionate care for this one patient, reminding them of their self-worth, was instrumental in their decision to transform their life and persevere through the challenges of achieving sobriety. Stefanie is genuinely dedicated to the overall well-being of her patients.
