Maha did not act only as a charge nurse managing the unit; she acted as a true leader, mentor, and emotional support system.
I would like to recognize Charge Nurse Maha for the extraordinary, compassionate care and leadership she demonstrated during my recent overtime shift in 5 South Unit.
As a Nurse Clinician with 8 years of experience, I am confident in different clinical settings; however, this was my first time covering an overtime shift in a medical floor. Despite my background, I found myself in a completely new environment, managing a 1:4 patient assignment with unfamiliar workflows. At one point, I felt overwhelmed, struggling with time management and concerned about delays in medication administration and documentation. I was genuinely close to feeling panicked.
In that moment, Maha’s presence changed everything.
She noticed my situation without me even asking and immediately stepped in with calmness, confidence, and genuine compassion. She supported me with medication administration for some of my patients, helped me organize and carry out the plan of care, and continuously checked in to ensure I was coping. What stood out was not just what she did—but how she did it. She made me feel safe, supported, and never judged.
Maha did not act only as a charge nurse managing the unit; she acted as a true leader, mentor, and emotional support system. She created a space where I could regain my confidence and continue providing safe patient care. Her actions directly impacted both my performance and the quality of care delivered to patients that day.
Because of her, what could have been a highly stressful and unsafe experience turned into a meaningful and empowering one.
Maha’s leadership was the anchor that held everything together. Even as an experienced nurse, I felt genuinely cared for under her leadership, which speaks volumes about her character and professionalism.
