Krystal has been my nursing preceptor for multiple weeks. Not only is she a great example of what a nurse should be, but she is also the best example of empathy. We had an unfortunate situation where a patient passed away, and Krystal went out of her way to not only support the family and their ability to see their family member again, but also once finding out the patient’s family was unable to afford funeral services, she went out of her way to contact local funeral homes to find out their pricing to provide for this mourning family to find a way to preserve and take care of their loved one’s legacy and tried to find something in their budget.

Krystal was able to do all this while providing care for other patients, taking care of the arrangements for the patient, showing empathy for the family of the deceased, and precepting a student. Krystal also took finding the pricing onto her plate, which allowed the family more time to be able to sit with their loved one and trust that she would take care of it for them. Krystal is a clear example of how impactful nursing can be on so many, and how flexible you need to be to be able to succeed as a nurse, as well as how to be encouraging to the next nurse.
