No matter the challenge or initiative, this team consistently rises to meet the needs of our frontline caregivers with expertise, compassion, and commitment.
The Clinical Professional Development Team at LIJ Valley Stream is truly the heartbeat of education, support, and champions of professional growth throughout our hospital. This dynamic (and mostly new) team of educators provides tireless, behind-the-scenes support to every unit, ensuring that our nurses and clinical staff are confident, competent, and prepared to deliver the highest quality patient care.

No matter the challenge or initiative, this team consistently rises to meet the needs of our frontline caregivers with expertise, compassion, and commitment. They thoughtfully design and deliver specialty education tailored to the unique needs of each area, including emergency department, critical care, and orthopedic-specific annual education, a triage course for ED nurses, a cardiac rhythms course for telemetry and critical care teams, monthly PACU education, and crisis prevention training to promote workforce safety.

The CPD team developed a comprehensive orientation program and ensures that our new graduate nurses feel supported, welcomed, and well prepared from day one. They meet with preceptors and orientees every week to identify opportunities to set these new team members up for success.

Beyond structured education, the CPD team provides daily, hands-on support on the units and readily step in to educate staff on new and evolving initiatives such as IDR rounds, sepsis care, blood draw competencies, regulatory readiness, launch of the Hello Care platform, launch of CRRT in the ICU, and the extensive EPIC readiness efforts, adjusting their hours and working diligently to offer demonstrations on all units to ensure our nurses are confident and ready to take the leap into a new electronic medical record.

In addition to education, the Clinical Professional Development Team manages and oversees many hospital programs, including the Clinical Ladder, Mentor/Mentee Program, Nurse Residency Program, and all hospital clinical placements, while serving as key partners in the successful execution of Professional Practice Day.

Often serving as the “unsung heroes” of our organization, their impact is felt everywhere, through stronger teams, safer practices, and empowered nurses. To so many of us, they are true heroes.

Their dedication, leadership, and passion for professional growth make them profoundly deserving of this DAISY Team Award.
