His care and concern for his patients go far above and beyond the normal duties of an RN.
I truly believe he is fueled by faith and shows it in all his actions and abilities. Roy's heart is for all people and has so much mercy for everyone. He is so competent in all he does and shows it. My entire stay at Saint Vincent's, I have to say, of all the surgeries I've had at hospitals, I've never had any nurses taking care of me like Roy. His care and concern for his patients go far above and beyond the normal duties of an RN. It's clear that he is a genuine, caring, and loving individual and has shown it in many ways. I know I asked him many of the same questions over and over again, but I never said a bad word. He doesn't judge. Many times, after he finished his work, he'd be leaving, and I thought of something else I needed help with, and he never hesitated. Roy’s character displays and demonstrates so many ideal qualities. Acts of genuine kindness, patience, and mostly so much compassion. He has a heart of pure gold. Which is pretty much perfect. In so many areas of his character, it's not just the words he uses to motivate and encourage others, but he also has a fine boldness in comforting. His patience with what he believes is the truth. We have had several conversations about life, and I believe there is so much in his heart. While caring for his patients, that is genuine compassion. He is honest about his feelings about life and not afraid to show them. I'm 80 years old in July, and have had two surgeries in my life, and have never had the kind of care and concern. I believe he has a lot of confidence in who he is as a person and as a nurse. I don't know of any nurse or doctor who has displayed Saint Vincent's care values of respect, care, extreme competence, and above all, joyfulness with his patients as much as he has. I love his heart and will always. We had many fond and memorable discussions about his caregiving. I hope this isn't redundant, but what was also very clear to me, and again repeating it… To me, many times, it was what medications he was giving me that would be helping. And how the medications work in my body. Again, these things went on for five days, and Roy never showed any signs of impatience or frustration. He will always be in my mind and heart. Roy is what I consider a diamond in the rough, and I honestly believe he is quite an asset to Saint Vincent's Hospital.
