From the moment she walked into the room, I could tell Mary had a sense of humor. It was wonderful because I do too. Being a night nurse, she was always apologizing for waking me up to check on me.
The one time she woke me up, my bed was soaked from a bad case of night sweats. She got me a new gown and completely stripped the sheets and blankets. Once I was back in a clean bed, the two of us had a wonderful conversation. I found out her dad was a teacher, and she knew several teachers that I knew, because I was also a teacher. It was a small conversation, but it meant so much to me. Just spending the extra time and conversation is sometimes all a patient might need.
Thanks for making me feel like I was the only patient on the floor. She is a gem of a nurse. Thank you.
