This year’s DAISY Award winner was Dahlia Smith, RN, who represents the very best of compassionate, patient-centered care. Patients and peers describe Dahlia as kind, calm, and attentive—anticipating needs and helping people feel safe through clear, reassuring communication. Her colleagues see it too. A new graduate nurse recently said, “Can she precept me? I want to learn from her!” and described her as steady, approachable, and the kind of nurse you want beside you on a busy day.
Patients say she listens, advocates for them and their loved ones, and brings light to hard days. One patient nomination stated: “From the moment she introduced herself, she made me feel safe, heard, and supported. She checked on me often, followed through, and responded quickly when I needed help. Even when the unit was busy, she stayed calm and professional—and still made me feel like a priority.”
Her peers describe her as dependable and meticulous, especially with documentation—and consistently knowledgeable about her patients and orders. She follows through, helps keep the team organized, and steps in without hesitation to support patient care and the unit’s flow. She delivers safe, compassionate care every shift.
We’re grateful to have you at Sheltering Arms Institute, Dahlia. Thank you for your excellence, your kindness, and your advocacy for every patient and family.
