She is a jack-of-all-trades.
Eileen joined our team last year and has been a great addition. She is very thorough and is always smiling. She takes time to be empathetic towards our patients and teammates. Recently, I was made aware of a situation involving Eileen. Eileen started working with the CHF population to ensure they are educated to prevent readmissions. Eileen has taken this work seriously and has gone to other hospitals in the system to see what the Heart Failure Navigators are doing. She has brought back some of their best practices and is doing great work with that population. One such instance was when she recognized that an HF patient was getting discharged.

While assisting the nurse with discharge, she observed several discrepancies. The patient had a low sodium level, and the physician wanted him to hold the Lasix until seen by his physician. The discharge instructions stated that he should resume the Lasix upon discharge. Eileen quickly took action and called the physician to update the discharge med reconciliation. This delayed the patient a little, but the patient's safety was paramount to Eileen, and she made a great catch. Eileen is very passionate about the work that she does. It is difficult to describe her role, as she is a jack-of-all-trades. She assists with leader rounding, patient teaching, CEB check-offs, LEAN work, and staff education.

Eileen is a patient advocate, often spending time with patients to ensure they receive what they need and understand their care plan. She was instrumental in increasing our NIHSS and MRS compliance. Eileen is admired by her peers and patients for going the extra mile. She is a huge asset to our unit, and our future is bright with her on our team. Eileen exemplifies what a true Atrium Health employee should be. She lives our values every day, of caring, commitment, integrity, and teamwork. I am honored to have her on our team.
