She listens, supports, and advocates for us, always striving to help us achieve a healthy balance between our work and home lives.
Rachel is the true definition of an exceptional leader—approachable, kind, empathetic, and deeply invested in both her staff and her patients. She leads with a genuine heart and consistently demonstrates dedication that far exceeds expectations. Rachel makes it a priority to know each member of her team on a personal level. She listens, supports, and advocates for us, always striving to help us achieve a healthy balance between our work and home lives. She is incredibly accommodating and thoughtful, often rearranging schedules or stepping in herself to make sure our unit is adequately staffed. Whether it’s picking up empty contingency time or taking on-call shifts, she never hesitates to fill the gaps to ensure safe, quality care for our patients. Her leadership extends far beyond staffing. Rachel actively encourages engagement—both inside and outside of work. She supports and helps organize involvement in hospital initiatives and community activities, even during the limited time off she has. She recognizes the importance of connection and morale and invests in both wholeheartedly. Rachel’s office is always a safe space. She welcomes staff with an open door, a compassionate ear, and often a sweet treat. She makes it known—clearly and sincerely—that she is available to us at any time, whether it’s a weekday, weekend, or after hours. And when she says this, she truly means it. She is present, supportive, and genuinely cares. Her compassion and selflessness extend to the families we care for as well.
Recently, our unit experienced a full-term loss. When the grieving family requested additional hand and footprint castings for themselves and their loved ones, we realized we didn’t have the supplies needed. Without hesitation, Rachel immediately stopped what she was doing and ran out to purchase everything required to honor this family’s wishes. She made their request her absolute priority, ensuring these precious keepsakes were completed before discharge. This is just one example of the countless times she has gone above and beyond for both staff and patients. Rachel is the kind of leader who quietly does extraordinary things every single day. She never seeks recognition, yet she is profoundly deserving of it. Even if she were to receive a DAISY Award, it would only begin to reflect on the impact she has on her team and the families we serve. Rachel is a selfless, compassionate, and irreplaceable leader, and we are all better nurses—and better people—because of her.
