I would not have been able to bring new life into this world without her encouragement and support.
We had Gretchen for two full 12-hour shifts, and she was nothing but great! We felt so lucky to get her as one of our nurses during the labor and delivery process. Her attention to detail and level of care were something I will forever be grateful for.
She kept me comfortable in one of the most vulnerable times of my life so far. Although my birth didn't go as planned, she was so supportive every step of the way and did not push anything onto me that I was uncomfortable with. She has the ability to put her patients at ease in chaotic situations. She is a great conversationalist, and I felt lucky to have her as my nurse for those 24 hours.
I would not have been able to bring new life into this world without her encouragement and support. Any woman would be so lucky to have Gretchen as their labor and delivery nurse.

I am writing to you directly in my capacity as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) with Anesthesia Associates of Coeur d'Alene, providing anesthesia services at Kootenai Health. It is with great professional admiration that I bring to your attention the exceptional performance of Gretchen Williams, RN, on the Labor and Delivery unit.
During a recent shift involving a profoundly emotionally challenging case for both the patient and her family/support person, Gretchen was assigned primary responsibility. The circumstances demanded not only precise clinical coordination but also profound empathy and composure—particularly during the epidural placement procedure. Gretchen exemplified the highest standards of nursing excellence: her calm, steady demeanor, expert management of the situation, and unwavering patient-centered focus provided critical reassurance and contributed significantly to a safe and supportive experience for all involved.
In my view, Gretchen is far more than a capable clinician—she is a true asset to the Labor and Delivery team and to Kootenai Health as a whole. Her consistent demonstration of clinical skill, emotional intelligence, and dedication aligns perfectly with the values that define our Magnet-designated organization.
Although I have been unable to submit a Momentum nomination through the standard process, I strongly believe Gretchen merits this recognition—and indeed exceeds the criteria for such an honor.
