I would like to wholeheartedly recognize Susan for her extraordinary compassion and unwavering dedication to her patients. For the patient who faced a delayed discharge without appropriate footwear, Susan immediately stepped in to protect the patient’s dignity and safety. Without hesitation, she offered her own shoes while we searched for an alternative. Although we were able to secure shoes from the donation bin, Susan’s instinctive willingness to give of herself speaks volumes about her character.

In that moment, she ensured the patient felt seen, respected, and cared for—not just medically, but as a human being. Similarly, for another patient, who was visibly anxious about undergoing an echocardiogram, Susan’s compassion once again shone through. She took the time to listen, provide reassurance, and offered to stay with the patient throughout the procedure.

Her calm presence and therapeutic communication transformed fear into trust, allowing the patient to feel safe and supported during a vulnerable experience. Susan consistently goes above and beyond, leading with empathy, kindness, and integrity. Her actions reflect the very heart of nursing and embody the values celebrated by the DAISY Award.

It is nurses like Susan who leave a lasting impression on patients and colleagues alike, and she is truly deserving of this recognition.
