One example that stands out is when a male patient who is the victim of an IPV (Intimate partner violence) had an expired order of protection. The patient was being seen for related anxiety in the clinic. The patient came to Woodhull for his appointment by himself, but his girlfriend followed him and then tried to join the patient during the visit.

Fortunately, RN Rutherford was able to intercept and told the girlfriend she could go to the waiting area. She refused to leave after multiple requests. RN Rutherford threatened to call for hospital police services and the girlfriend agreed to go to the waiting area. While the Provider was in the room with the patient, the patient could overhear the whole interaction taking place in the hallway and it triggered an acute panic attack. The Provider ended up spending over one hour with the patient.
