Her calm presence, kindness, and willingness to listen made an incredibly difficult time much easier to face.
I am honored to nominate Kristina Victory for the DAISY Award in recognition of the extraordinary compassion, skill, and dedication she showed me. I experienced one of the scariest moments in my life. What I thought was a stomach virus turned into DKA with sepsis. This was my first visit to an ER and my first stay in a hospital. From the moment I arrived at UAB St. Vincent's Chilton ER, the staff began working with me. TR began working with me and helped save my life. After some time, it was determined that I could stay in Clanton, and I was sent to the ICU. Kristina was the nurse assigned to spend the long, scary night with me. During my time with Kristina, she consistently went above and beyond to ensure I felt safe, respected, and cared for. Her calm presence, kindness, and willingness to listen made an incredibly difficult time much easier to face. She did not simply treat my medical needs; she treated me as a whole person.
One moment that stands out was when Kristina gave me several things to keep my blood sugar within range, so I asked for a particular soda. There were none, but she called the ER and got me a soda. That moment demonstrated the level of empathy and commitment that defines exceptional nursing. She could have easily told me they didn't have any. There are many more examples of her caring commitment through the long night. Kristina communicated with compassion and professionalism. She took the time to explain what was happening and answered questions without making me feel rushed. Her ability to balance clinical excellence with genuine human connection was truly remarkable. Because of her dedication, I felt heard, and my family and I are sure her colleagues are inspired. Kristina represents the very best of what nursing should be. For these reasons, I am grateful for the opportunity to recognize her with this nomination. Her compassion and commitment made a lasting difference in my life as well as the lives of the patients and families she serves.
