I would like to nominate Nurse Lacy Schermerhorn for her exceptional compassion and dedication to patient care. Recently, she went above and beyond for a patient who had no family or friends by his side during the final moments of his life. The patient, who had a very poor prognosis, was in fragile health and faced his last moments alone. Lacy demonstrated extraordinary empathy by staying with him, ensuring he wasn’t alone. She played comforting music to create a peaceful atmosphere and provided unwavering support that allowed the patient to pass away with dignity and a sense of companionship. Her actions embody the true spirit of nursing—offering not only medical care but also emotional support during the most vulnerable times. The patient seemed at ease, and it was evident he found solace in her presence. Lacy’s selflessness and kindness deserve recognition, as she exemplified what it truly means to care.
