I would like to nominate Joseph for a DAISY Award in recognition of the extraordinary compassion and care he provided to my 84-year-old father during his recent surgery. This was my father’s first surgery, and understandably, he was extremely anxious and frightened. In addition, he has Alzheimer’s disease, which makes him easily confused and even more vulnerable in unfamiliar situations. From the moment Joseph walked into the room, he went straight to my father’s side and immediately began putting him at ease. He took the time to explain everything he was doing and why, speaking in a calm, reassuring manner that my father could understand. He never rushed through anything, and his presence alone seemed to bring a sense of comfort. My father loves to talk and ask questions, especially when he is nervous. Joseph never once appeared impatient or dismissive. Instead, he listened attentively to every story and answered every question with kindness and respect. He treated my father not just as a patient, but as a person who mattered. Because of Joseph’s patience, compassion, and genuine kindness, my father was noticeably relaxed when he was taken into surgery. That peace of mind meant more to our family than words can express. Joseph truly exemplifies the spirit of the DAISY Award through his exceptional nursing care and heartfelt compassion.
