I would like to take a minute to recognize one of our Med Surg Nurses, Olivia Savage. We received a patient from UCSF last night who had undergone a kidney and liver transplant, and we were taking them back for "placement". Because he was a new patient, we were unsure of his baseline mentation, but Olivia quickly noticed that something didn't feel right about him. She got the Charge nurse to assess with her and escalated to the MD. Because of her persistence, the doctor called a Code Stroke, and the patient got to CT within minutes. The patient did, in fact, have a bleed in his brain. Because of Olivia's assessment skills and sticking to her gut, this patient's stroke was recognized quickly, and he was transferred to ICU pending transfer to another facility. I am so proud of her and want to make sure that she knows how important it was that she advocated for her patient.
