Joe also helped me with the process for our loved one's therapy dog, Rosie, to come to the ICU to say goodbye to him.
Joe was with my children and made sure they were well informed and supported through a devastating family tragedy. No words can adequately express how important this was to letting our loved one go and start the healing process.
When I arrived from Pennsylvania, Joe helped me understand the gravity of the situation and answered my clinical questions, as well as bringing in the amazing PA. As a healthcare professional, having information and facts, no matter how daunting the information is, helps families make the appropriate plans and take the next steps.
Joe exhibited great compassion and had a beautiful grace and gentleness about him, which helped keep us grounded. Joe also helped me with the process for our loved one's therapy dog, Rosie, to come to the ICU to say goodbye to him.
Healthcare in the post covid era is not easy, 12 hour shifts with critically ill patients is a lot! My wish is for Joe to be recognized for his tremendous work.
I brought a home-cooked meal to the ICU staff the day before the funeral to share a personal connection and acknowledge the wonderful work and efforts of the team, even though the outcome is not what we hoped for.
We will be forever grateful to Joe and the ICU team.
