Chelsea has put a smile on the face of an old man, as well as on my wife. For several days thereafter, while Chelsea was working the floor, she would stop in just to say hi and see how things were going, even though she wasn't assigned to my room.
In my 78 years of living, I've been in many hospitals as a patient and as a visitor, from Vietnam to several hospitals in the U.S. One thing that I never forgot was what my father always told me: Leave a good impression with anyone you meet. Chelsea has done that. This lovely lady, who happens to be a nurse, overheard a conversation between me and my wife about how the next day was our wedding anniversary. So that next morning, prior to my wife's coming to visit, Chelsea said to me, "What are you giving your wife for your anniversary?" I said, "It doesn't look like much of anything, because I'm in the hospital, I have no cash or a credit card, and I'm blind." She said, "Let me see what I can do for you." About an hour later, she came back with some candy and decorated cookies. She said the gift shop was closed (it was a Saturday), but that I could give those sweets to my wife. So I said I would pay for them later. She said, "Don't worry about it. It's my treat." When my wife came, she was very surprised and appreciated that I had a gift for her. She said, "How did you get this?" and I said, "Chelsea got them." At which point, Chelsea said, "I got them, but they're from your husband." Chelsea has put a smile on the face of an old man, as well as on my wife. For several days thereafter, while Chelsea was working the floor, she would stop in just to say hi and see how things were going, even though she wasn't assigned to my room. My dad would be proud of her.
