For the first time ever, we felt that he was not just another patient or a room number.
When my father-in-law was transferred to Salma, we did not realize we were witnessing a significant turning point in his treatment journey.
Since he broke his hip and underwent surgery at SSMC, he had been suffering from severe, unbearable pain, especially at his advanced age of 85. By Allah’s grace, this nurse was assigned to his care.
For the first time ever, we felt that he was not just another patient or a room number. She would call him “Papa” while others referred to him by his first name.
Aisa exemplified discipline and professionalism in her work, giving him his medication on time, attending to his meals, hygiene, and all his needs.
Yet, what stood out even more was her sensitivity to our worries. Her attentiveness to his continuous pain and complaints during the first weeks and her reassuring words to us gave us hope he would recover soon.
After about a month, this nurse became a family member. She calls him “Papa,” and he calls her my daughter. When she is present, our hearts are at ease because she understands his needs and wishes better than anyone.
