Without Lina's support, the impact of this tragedy on the young girl could have been significantly more distressing.
I am writing to share a significant and impactful experience that occurred on Saturday, while I was providing care to a patient who unexpectedly passed away. The patient's wife and young daughters were en route to the hospital to visit when this unfortunate event took place. Following the guidance of my Charge Nurse, Lina Ryan. I attempted to reach out to child life services for support but, regrettably, could only access the voicemail system after multiple attempts.

Upon the family's arrival, they were met with the devastating news of their husband's and father's passing. The youngest daughter was profoundly affected, displaying confusion and heartbreak regarding her father's situation.

In this moment of crisis, Lina was able to coordinate with the appropriate staff to ensure that a Child Life Specialist could attend to the young girl promptly. The tragedy experienced by this innocent child will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on her life.

This experience not only left a mark on the patient's family but also deeply affected me personally. The intervention provided by Lina, along with the Child Life Specialist, was a remarkable demonstration of kindness and compassion in a time of need. It was moving to witness the transformation of this young girl from a state of devastation and uncertainty to one of understanding regarding her father's condition and the implications of his passing.

Such moments embody the spirit of the DAISY Award; those profound instances that redefine the purpose of our work and reaffirm our dedication to the profession of Nursing.
Lina's compassion and professionalism that day were pivotal in navigating a critical situation, ultimately shaping this young girl's experience during a heartbreaking time. Without Lina's support, the impact of this tragedy on the young girl could have been significantly more distressing.
