The Emergency Department is a demanding place, and she didn’t let that stop her from being fully present and offering the best of herself.
Bringing your child to the Emergency Department is never easy, especially as both a parent and a fellow nurse. The chaos, the uncertainty, the vulnerability all become magnified when the patient is your own child. But amidst the whirlwind of the Emergency Department, one nurse stood out and brought calm, compassion, and incredible care: Tierney.

From the moment we entered the triage room, she was present. She didn’t just speak to me as a worried parent; she spoke directly to my child, honoring his voice and encouraging him to advocate for himself. As a mom, there’s nothing more reassuring than watching someone treat your child with dignity and respect. As a nurse, there’s nothing more inspiring than seeing someone practice at such a high standard in one of the most intense environments in healthcare.

She validated every concern not just medically, but emotionally. She acknowledged how difficult it is to be on both sides of the bed, and in doing so, made us feel seen, heard, and safe.

Even as the Emergency Department bustled around us, she found moments to check in and comfort my child with warmth and kindness. Before her shift ended, she took the time to stop by and say goodbye—a simple gesture that spoke volumes about her character and commitment.

The Emergency Department is a demanding place, and she didn’t let that stop her from being fully present and offering the best of herself.

She is a reminder that nursing is not just a profession, but a calling, and she answered it beautifully. She deserves this DAISY Award.

Thank you for letting me share how deeply she impacted our family.
