Her strength lies in her empathy when performing motivational interviewing. She takes an active listening approach with all of her patient interactions to ensure each patient receives individualized patient-centered care and is actively involved in their treatment planning. She understands that sometimes the smallest concerns can hold the biggest truths.

She encountered a patient in clinic who mentioned a persistent bump on his left arm. He explained that he had mentioned it to multiple people but was never taken seriously. It had been dismissed as insignificant and would potentially resolve on its own. She listened and took a closer look, noting the firmness and the patient’s growing concern. Trusting her clinical instincts and understanding the importance of patient advocacy, she ensured the Patient that the concern would be escalated and informed the Attending Physician.

The Physician agreed that further evaluation was warranted. An MRI was ordered, revealing something abnormal beneath the surface. What initially seemed minor was now raising significant questions, and the Patient was subsequently referred to Orthopedics for follow-up. Surgery was completed to remove the object, and pathology reports revealed a rare parasite typically found in parts of Asia. The patient had come into contact with the parasite during his time overseas 50 years prior. The patient was referred to Infectious Disease specialists for appropriate treatment.

Thanks to her attentiveness and advocacy, a potentially serious condition was identified and addressed.
