When she learned that I had not eaten at all that morning, Autumn went above and beyond to advocate for me. Despite knowing that eating is often discouraged before induction, she listened to my concerns and worked with the care team to ensure I could have a sandwich and crackers before the process began. This advocacy made me feel heard, respected, and genuinely cared for. I was very clear that my birth plan centered on having a healthy baby and mother, with a strong desire to avoid a C-section if at all possible. Autumn took this seriously and ensured my wishes were communicated clearly to the physician, advocating for my preferences while maintaining the highest standards of safety and clinical judgment.

After hearing the history of my previous two deliveries—both of which required NICU involvement—Autumn proactively recognized the potential need for additional support and advocated for NICU staff to be present at delivery. Her foresight and clinical excellence provided an added layer of safety and reassurance that meant everything to me during such a vulnerable time. Throughout the labor process, Autumn consistently demonstrated compassion, professionalism, and respect. She was especially understanding of my preference to receive an epidural prior to undergoing many of the required labor checks, and she adjusted her approach accordingly without judgment or pressure. Autumn also exemplified exceptional collaboration, seamlessly coordinating communication between my physician, the NICU team, anesthesiology, and the rest of my care team. I never felt like I had to repeat myself or advocate on my own because Autumn did that for me every step of the way. What made this experience truly unforgettable was what happened after her shift ended. Autumn had joked with me about stopping by to meet the baby since she would be off duty before my son was born. True to her word, she came to visit me the next day to congratulate me, meet my son, and learn his name, a detail she remembered from our earlier conversations. That simple yet deeply meaningful gesture showed how genuinely she cared and how personally invested she was in my experience and outcome. Because Autumn was the first person I encountered during my delivery, she set the foundation for what became an incredibly positive, empowering, and beautiful birth experience - my first at Memorial Hermann.
