She anticipated his needs and met them with such care, urgency, and compassion.
When I arrived, I was completely exhausted, physically, emotionally, and mentally. I was one very tired momma, overwhelmed and unsure of how I was going to get through the moment. Watching my son, L, struggle with the flu and dehydration was heartbreaking, and I felt helpless and scared. From the very first interaction, Shelby, this incredible nurse, became a source of comfort and strength for both of us. Without hesitation, she stepped in and took action, making sure L was never without anything he needed. I never once had to ask. She anticipated his needs and met them with such care, urgency, and compassion. She checked on us constantly, never allowing us to feel forgotten or alone. Each time she walked into the room, she brought calm, reassurance, and genuine kindness. Her warm smile and friendly presence meant more to me than words can express during such a stressful time. She treated L with such gentleness and patience, and she treated me with understanding, grace, and empathy during one of my most vulnerable moments as a mother.
What stood out most was how deeply she truly cared. This was not just her job. It is clear that nursing is her calling. Her compassion was real and evident in every action, every word, and every moment she spent caring for L. She went above and beyond in ways that will forever stay with me. When I felt drained, scared, and emotionally worn down, she made me feel supported, seen, and heard. I will always be grateful for the love, comfort, and exceptional care she gave my family during a time we desperately needed it. Nurses like her are the reason families feel safe during their hardest moments. She is a true example of what it means to be a nurse, and she absolutely deserves to be recognized with the DAISY Award.
