Sarah first came into my direct care after my CNA had forgotten me and I really needed a shower. My cousin had gotten so mad that she called and asked to speak to the charge nurse. Sarah was the charge nurse that night. She and two other nurses came running and saw to it that I got a shower. Then another night I was feeling terrible, my blood sugars were high, and we couldn’t figure out why. Sarah was on the case. She made sure to order a urinalysis. She asked for specific blood cultures. And she made sure that there was more emphasis on finding the cause of this anomaly. When I was having a really rough night with my pain, she tried everything to help relieve it. She gave me what she could, medication-wise, trying to avoid the IV narcotics. She even went as far as to get me heat and then to massage my back, trying to relieve the tension in my lumbar spine. She took time to try to help me personally. She also brought me emotional comfort when I was really struggling. Her actions about the urinalysis led to the confirmation that I had an infection. I was started on antibiotics. Her help in relieving my pain helped me get some sleep. This recovery has not been easy, but she has made the load a little lighter.
