She provided exceptional care during one of the most frightening medical experiences I have had. I came to the hospital with increasing vision loss in my left eye after being urgently sent there by my eye doctor, and I was scared.

Once I learned I was being admitted, I felt overwhelmed and uncertain about what to expect. From the moment she cared for me, she brought a calm, compassionate, and deeply reassuring presence that changed the entire experience for me. She was attentive throughout the night, made timely rounds, and took the time to explain what I would be experiencing, which other staff members would be coming by, and what my schedule would look like the next day.

That thoughtful communication made me feel informed, grounded, and much less afraid. She also spoke to me with genuine warmth, a caring voice, a smile, and listening ears, which made me feel truly seen as a person, not just as a patient.

What especially stood out was her compassion and initiative. After realizing I had not eaten in about 12 hours and was hungry, she brought me a late-night sandwich. That act of kindness meant so much in that moment. It showed me how closely she was paying attention and how much she cared about my comfort and well-being.

Her encouragement made me feel like I could truly get better there and that this could be not only effective care, but also a cared-for and positive experience. Because of her attentiveness, compassion, communication, and encouragement, I felt far more comfortable and far less afraid than I ever expected to feel in that situation. She exemplified the extraordinary nursing care that deserves recognition with a DAISY Award.
