Stacy always goes above and beyond when faced with new or unknown situations.
The DAISY Award affords us the opportunity to acknowledge and identify extraordinary nurses. One such nurse leader who is deserving of this recognition is Stacy Chojnacki, RN.
Stacy began her career at MSSN in 2000. She began as a staff nurse in an acute care med-surg unit and advanced to the role of preceptor, charge nurse, and now Assistant Nurse Manager. She has excelled in this role as a nurse leader.
Stacy is known for her calm, mild manner even in the most challenging situations. She assesses the situation, determines what needs to be done, and takes action.
We have many outstanding nurses with amazing skill sets. This nurse stands out for her exceptional compassion, caring, clinical expertise and ability to go above and beyond in advocating for her patients and her staff.
Stacy is known for always stepping up to the plate. She is a valuable resource for many when clinical issues arise. On a daily basis, she goes out of her way to answer call bells, walk patients to the bathroom, and assist with any ADL’s. Patient care is the number one priority for Stacy.
Stacy works well and is highly respected by all disciplines, including providers, Care Managers, and Pharmacy. She always displays a professional demeanor.
In her role, Stacy supports and is enthusiastic when it comes to new initiatives. She has a “can-do” attitude that transfers throughout the unit and her team. Stacy demonstrates true compassion and commitment to patients, unit and the organization.
She is highly involved in many committees and councils. Stacy is a co-chair of the Nursing Education Council, a member of Nurse Practice Council and Medication Management Committee.
This past year, many challenges were brought to MSSN. For example, for a number of weeks the hospital received unscheduled visits from both the Joint Commission and the Department of Health. Stacy was a huge asset to the organization, speaking with the surveyors about nursing practice and protocols. She was often asked to meet with the surveyors both on and off her unit. She did this while conducting and maintaining the daily unit operations seamlessly.
There was one day in particular that the unit was extremely busy and Stacy was called away multiple times to meet with the Surveyors. She never missed a beat in running the activity on her unit.
Recently, we were faced with a snowstorm with a substantial amount of snow in many areas. Many staff members were not able to make it into work, and many units were working short. It was so significant that employees in the immediate area were picked up by hospital employees so they could staff the units.
On this day, without question, Stacy took a patient assignment while managing the unit operations. She also took time out of her day to support the staff who were able to make it in under these unusual conditions.

The hospital recently transitioned to a new electronic medical record, EPIC. Like many, Stacy, along with her staff, were challenged with this new documentation system. She reached out to the clinical informaticist and spent time with him to learn this new system. This provided her with the ability to better support her staff in assisting with documentation as well as understanding the new workflow.
Stacy has a talent for teamwork. She has built relationships with trust and mutual respect. Her knowledge and intuitiveness make her a resource nurse for clinical issues, providing newer nurses to advance to a higher level.
As evidenced, Stacy is committed to her unit, colleagues, and organization. More importantly, she is committed to her patients. She consistently and continually works diligently to achieve the best patient outcomes.
