I always felt that serving as a nurse is not just something that Sharlin does; it is who she is to her core.
I am moved to recognize Sharlin because of the positive impact she had on my recovery following gallbladder surgery. When I first met Sharlin, I got a strong sense that she was a compassionate person who truly cared about my treatment plan and recovery. My experience proved my first impression correct.

Sharlin didn't wait for me to ask for help or to complain about pain. Sharlin was proactive in frequently asking how I felt and quickly addressing my needs. I remember the night she put a warm blanket on me while I was sleeping. When my pain increased, she quickly reached out to my doctor to request a more effective treatment for the pain. Sharlin's level of care embodied the Healer's Touch that the DAISY Award celebrates. I always felt that serving as a nurse is not just something that Sharlin does; it is who she is to her core.

I served as a firefighter/paramedic officer with the Des Plaines Fire Department for over 30 years, so I have a strong frame of reference to judge quality of care and quality of character. In my personal and professional view, Sharlin is a positive extension of the Northwestern Medicine patient care philosophy and highly deserving of this DAISY Award. She deserves to be recognized for her compassionate nature and the embodiment of the Healer's Touch.
