Rajwinder “Raj” Kaur, RN, 5-Main-1, was nominated for caring for a patient and their spouse experiencing unexpected health concerns. The couple was visiting Fresno for a family wedding when the husband developed chest pain and was admitted to Saint Agnes. In the middle of this overwhelming time, far away from their home and family, the wife suffered a fall that caused bruising to the face. When Raj started her shift the next morning, she immediately noticed the wife’s injuries and urged her to visit the Emergency Department for evaluation. The woman expressed concern about leaving her husband alone, so Raj stepped in to offer support and comfort in their time of need. “She took me under her wing. She reassured me, gave me comfort, and treated me as though I were her own family,” the wife says. “Raj never once made me feel like an inconvenience or a burden. Instead, she showed the deepest compassion, balancing her care for my husband with genuine concern for me.” Through her thoughtful actions, Raj embodied the very definition of a nurse – compassionate, empathetic, and selfless. Her support helped the couple feel safe and cared for in a dark moment. Thank you, Raj, for being a light for our patients and their loved ones.
