I'm a nurse, but I badly needed a nurse to help me.
My mom was admitted to hospice. Darren was her admitting nurse. He was also the nurse on-call the evening she passed away. What an excellent nurse! Within a matter of minutes of his arrival at my mom's house on the day of admission, I felt relief and knew my mom was in good hands! He performed an excellent and in-depth assessment and explained to my mom everything he was doing. My mom was included in what was taking place and not made to feel as if she wasn't there. Prior to leaving, he made certain I had everything I needed for her care.
On the evening she passed away, he arrived at her home, and I was very happy he was there. He is so efficient. He's also quiet and gentle, which was appreciated at that time of my mom's passing. He put us at ease about the progression of events that evening. He took care of everything. This took so much off our minds.
I am an RN, and my mom was dying. I was in a level of denial and in the mindset I needed to get an adequate level of fluids and nutrition into her every day, perform timely turning/positioning, wound care, skin care, etc etc etc. Darren gently and with a kind authority reviewed the dying process with me and assured me that "I was doing a beautiful job". I'm a nurse, but I badly needed a nurse to help me. Thank you, Darren! You are quite a credit to our profession.
