Symone visited her, spent time painting her nails, and reminded her that she was both loved and missed back on the unit.
Symone has consistently gone above and beyond in the care she provides to her patients.
One of our long-term patients, who was mostly non-verbal with a tracheostomy and a feeding tube, became very special to her. Although the patient could only occasionally say a few words like "good morning" and "thank you," Symone always spoke to her like she was a friend, showing her dignity, compassion, and kindness in every encounter.
During her stay, Symone realized that she and the patient shared the same birthday. Symone promised the patient that she would celebrate with her when the day came. However, the patient was discharged to a nursing facility a couple of weeks before her birthday.
Despite that, Symone kept her promise.
On the patient's birthday, Symone created a thoughtful gift basket filled with items the patient could use at the facility, such as a soft blanket, a hat, self-care products, and even matching bracelets for them to share. Symone visited her, spent time painting her nails, and reminded her that she was both loved and missed back on the unit.
This act of kindness reflects Symone's true heart for nursing. She not only cares for her patients' medical needs but also their emotional well-being, making them feel valued, respected, and remembered.
