Her leadership extended far beyond clinical expertise; she provided humanity, comfort, and love when it was needed most.
I would like to recognize Jessica Duncan for her exceptional leadership, compassion, and unwavering support of both patients and staff within the Women's and Children's Team.
Jessica is an incredible leader who consistently goes above and beyond. She is always willing to come in early, stay late, pick up extra shifts, and jump in wherever help is needed. Her presence alone makes the entire team feel supported, valued, and confident in even the most challenging situations.
On this particular shift, a patient arrived pregnant and unsure of her gestational age. Without hesitation, Jessica stepped in to prepare for the delivery and provided calm, steady leadership as the situation evolved.
As the delivery became imminent, Jessica compassionately facilitated difficult conversations with the mother regarding her wishes after the infants were born. It was later discovered the patient was carrying twins, and Jessica immediately adjusted, ensuring care remained seamless and patient-centered.
Given the early gestation, the mother chose comfort care for her babies. Jessica honored this decision with profound empathy and respect, placing the babies on the mother's chest and supporting both parents in their grief. When the mother and father were unable to hold one of the babies, Jessica selflessly held him herself despite how emotionally difficult it was to ensure he was never alone in his short life.
Jessica then lovingly dressed the babies, cared for them with dignity, and facilitated necessary arrangements with grace and compassion during an incredibly painful time.
Her leadership extended far beyond clinical expertise; she provided humanity, comfort, and love when it was needed most.
Jessica embodies the true spirit of nurse leadership. Her actions demonstrate extraordinary compassion, strength, and dedication to both parents and her team. She is deeply deserving of the recognition.
