Kim showed up without hesitation. She worked five consecutive days, including a double shift in the middle of the storm, ensuring our patients continued to receive safe, compassionate care.
I would like to nominate Kim for a DAISY Award.
Kim has been my coworker on T2 at Newport Hospital for the past five years, and she has dedicated more than 20 years to this unit. Her commitment to our patients, our team, and our profession is nothing short of extraordinary.
I would especially like to recognize the incredible dedication she demonstrated during the recent record-breaking blizzard. While many were understandably concerned about travel and staffing, Kim showed up without hesitation. She worked five consecutive days, including a double shift in the middle of the storm, ensuring our patients continued to receive safe, compassionate care. Despite the exhaustion and stress that come with such circumstances, she maintained a positive attitude and a reassuring smile for both her coworkers and her patients.
When I was worried about the impact of the blizzard, she kept my spirits up when I needed it the most. Her support went beyond clinical care. She quite literally helped dig our team out of trouble by lending her snow shovel so we could clear our cars and get home safely. She is someone who steps up, sees what needs to be done, and helps without being asked.
Kim consistently goes above and beyond the duties of a typical team member. She strives to provide the highest standard of care to every patient she encounters. As the only hospice-certified nurse on our unit—and possibly in the hospital—she brings a depth of expertise that is invaluable. Her knowledge, compassion, and calm presence are a guiding light to coworkers navigating difficult end-of-life situations and to patients and families during their most vulnerable moments. She ensures that patients receive not just clinical excellence, but dignity, comfort, and understanding.
In addition to her bedside care, Kim demonstrates leadership and professionalism at every level. She leads the T2 Professional Practice Committee and serves on the hospital-wide PPC, advocating for quality improvement and nursing excellence. She is always willing to mentor new nurses, answer questions, and offer support without hesitation.
Kim embodies the true spirit of the DAISY Award. I cannot think of a more deserving nurse.
