Every single little act of nursing professionalism, kindness, and caring will never be forgotten.
I would like to recognize Amanda, RN, on the 5th floor at Memorial Hospital Shiloh, for her outstanding care and professionalism during my stay at Memorial Hospital Shiloh. I was admitted after becoming sick rather quickly at home. There was fear in my head and heart after being admitted and realizing how sick I was. As soon as Amanda entered my room, my fear was eased tremendously.
Her smile lit up my room! She went above and beyond to ensure I felt respected and genuinely cared about. I needed that reassurance to help me stay calm and lessen my concern for what was ahead. Her attention to every detail of the medications, labs, and lots of tests made a difference in the accuracy and timely results for the right diagnosis.
Amanda was full of compassion and knowledge. She took time to listen and explain each detail of all that was going on. She comforted me, my husband, and our daughters. With her caring ways and her obvious clinical experience, she was able to create trust during a stressful time for us all. She involved me in decisions, listened to my concerns, and answered many questions.

Being a cancer survivor, I live with more fear than most of what might be ahead and what testing might reveal. Amanda was visibly present, routinely checking in on me to see if there was any need I had. She was invaluable in helping me navigate all the tests while waiting for answers. She even offered to take me down to the MRI area when I had been pushed back due to no transport.
She identified the need for blood pressure medications and helped me understand the new medication ordered since it was not what I took at home. She identified a large weight gain and edema and acted immediately so the physician could order medication promptly; she intervened with a necessary lab draw that could have turned out with an incorrect diagnosis. Truly, without her intervention and prompt actions, my hospital stay might have been even longer.
Amanda got answers for me as soon as results were available, working with the physician to keep me informed and lessen my fears. Upon discharge, she took me down herself to expedite the discharge so we would get on the road before it got dark.

Her compassion, her knowledge, her strong work ethic, and teamwork were evident in the care I received under her care on the 5th floor. Amanda RN is to be commended for the excellent patient care I received. It is with great appreciation that I submit my nomination for her excellence in the nursing care I received.
