Hawa made me feel safe, listened to, and comfortable at every moment.
This nurse’s journey into nursing is one of courage, purpose, and heart. Originally from Sierra Leone, she followed a path that began in banking, but it was her passion for caring for others that led her to discover her true calling.
A devoted mother of two, she has balanced her professional dedication while supporting her children in achieving their dreams across two continents, here in the UK and in the United States. Her strength, resilience, and determination shine through in every aspect of her life.
She began her nursing journey as a student in the Heart Assessment Center, a place she would later return to as a qualified nurse, already demonstrating the commitment and excellence we celebrate today. She later joined the Cardiac Day Ward, where she has become an integral and deeply valued member of the team. In a fast-paced, high-pressure cardiac environment, Hawa is known not just for her clinical expertise, but for something even more powerful: her compassion. She has a remarkable ability to connect with patients in their most vulnerable moments, to reassure, to comfort, and to bring calm where there is fear. Patients remember how she made them feel — safe, respected, and truly cared for.
Her colleagues describe her as reliable, supportive, and uplifting, and as someone who not only delivers outstanding care but also generously gives her time and knowledge, helping to guide and mentor newly qualified nurses and new team members. This nurse leads not only through skill, but through kindness, and through example.

I would like to nominate Hawa for the outstanding care she gave me during my stay on the Cardiac Day Ward following my ICD procedure. From the very beginning, Hawa treated me with genuine compassion, kindness, and respect. At a time when I felt vulnerable, she created a sense of calm and reassurance that stayed with me throughout my entire stay. She didn’t just carry out her role; she truly cared. Hawa made me feel safe, listened to, and comfortable at every moment. Her presence, her attentiveness, and the way she spoke to me made a real difference to my experience as a patient. My daughter and I are deeply grateful for the care I received. Hawa is a remarkable nurse whose compassion and professionalism shine through in everything she does.
